Daylight Savings time-change

Here is my take on the Daylight Savings time changes:
Daylight savings is based on speculative arguments. You can go on about all the different pieces that you choose for or against your argument. You may be saving here wasting there and so on. But you will not get through half of the societal puzzle pieces that are required in order to add up. What is more interesting is that you can't add all these different pieces to get a specific answer since there is no formula for that. And in the end, a daytime is a fixed length stick that is the shortest on December 21st and the longest on June 21st. You can't make it longer by sawing off one end or gluing another piece to the other and no matter how you rearrange the stick, you can't change its length. That's the way it works for this large thin-crusted molten sphere of red hot magma that flies around the sun at great speed in the vacuum of space.
So I'm of the opinion that Daylight Savings is another "pretend to do something" type of game. Or more of a cultural trend. Like Long Friday or another imaginary day of celebration with some history. The question is that it is hard to rationalize the fairly recent invention of Daylight Savings. Especially when I get my daughter on the bicycle at the end of the day and after a Daylight Savings change it puts us in the dark and less safe to bike home.
